The short version

You must be 13 or older to use Focus Arena.
It's a free, personal-use productivity tool, not a professional or parental-control product — we make no promises about uptime or accuracy.
Because we never see your password, we can't recover or reset it. Losing it (or your browser data) can mean losing access to your account.
Don't abuse the service — spam our signup endpoint, harass other users, or try to access accounts that aren't yours.
The service is provided "as is," with no warranty, and our liability is limited to the extent the law allows.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of focusarena.dev, ko.focusarena.dev, and the Focus Arena Chrome extension (together, the "Service"). The Service is a personal project operated by an independent individual developer, not a registered company ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at ijunsu2082@gmail.com.

By creating an account, installing the extension, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you're under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use the Service. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll remove it — parents/guardians can also request this directly at the contact above.

2. What the Service is

Focus Arena is a free study/focus timer with an optional companion browser extension that blocks websites you choose while a session is running, an illustrated character that grows with your banked focus time, and an optional private, friends-only weekly leaderboard. It works fully without an account; an account only adds cross-session identity and the friends feature.

The Service is a personal productivity tool. It is not a parental-control product, a content-filtering or monitoring service, a substitute for professional advice about attention, focus, or productivity, and it makes no claim to verify whether you actually studied — it counts time, nothing more.

3. Accounts

Accounts are stored locally in your browser. Your password is hashed on your device and never sent to us — which means we cannot see it, recover it, or reset it for you. If you forget your password, clear your browser's site data, switch browsers, or use a different device, you may permanently lose access to that account and any data stored only locally (your character customization, blocked-site list, and local session history).

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials to yourself and for anything that happens under your account. Tell us if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. The Chrome extension

The extension blocks navigation to websites you add to your own block list while a focus session is active. You control what's on that list. We are not responsible for:

Sites that are blocked or not blocked contrary to your expectations (including timing edge cases, browser restarts, or sync across devices);
Any consequence of a site being blocked while you're using it (for example, if a site you needed for something unrelated to the distraction it was added for gets blocked too);
Any loss connected to relying on the extension as your only means of avoiding a website.

You can add optional site permissions to the extension for sites you want blocked; you can revoke them at any time from Chrome's extension settings.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the Service to harass, impersonate, or abuse another user (including through your display name, friend requests, or any free-text field);
Attempt to access another user's account, or friend/presence data that isn't yours, without authorization;
Send automated or scripted traffic to our backend endpoint outside of normal use of the Service (spam signups, fake leaderboard entries, etc.);
Reverse-engineer, decompile, or interfere with the Service in a way intended to disrupt it for other users;
Use the Service for anything illegal.

We may suspend or remove access — including deleting sheet rows tied to an account — for violating this section, at our discretion.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of anything you submit (your display name, nickname, and any custom avatar you build). By submitting a display name or nickname, you allow us to display it to your accepted friends and, where applicable, on the leaderboard — that's the entire point of the feature, and it's the minimum needed to make it work.

7. Our content

The Focus Arena name, "Peep" and other character art, illustrations, and the design of the Service are ours (or used under license) and are not licensed to you beyond what's needed to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. Don't redistribute, resell, or create derivative products from them without permission.

8. Third-party services

The Service relies on Google (data storage via Sheets/Apps Script, and optionally Google Sign-In), Netlify (hosting), and Cloudflare (privacy-focused analytics on the English site). Your use of features built on those services is also subject to those providers' own terms.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that it will meet your expectations. This is a free, independently-run project — there is no service-level guarantee.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, GOODWILL, OR OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE'VE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (WHICH, FOR A FREE SERVICE, IS TYPICALLY $0), OR (B) $50 USD. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, so some of them may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

12. Termination

You can stop using the Service, or delete your account data, at any time by emailing us. We may suspend or terminate your access for violating these Terms, or discontinue the Service (or any feature of it) at any time.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to that jurisdiction and venue. If you're a consumer located outside the United States, nothing in this section overrides any consumer-protection right you have under your local law that can't be waived by contract.

14. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time; the "last updated" date above will change when we do. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

15. Miscellaneous

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver of it. These Terms, along with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
